While AI is becoming ubiquitous, most products still rely on chat-based interactions. For manufacturing users making daily operational decisions, prompting is friction. Surrounded by dashboards and metrics, they need clarity and direction—not more questions to answer.
My Role in this project: Product Designer
Scope: User research, AI opportunity framing, workflow and system design, human-in-the-loop experiences, mockups, user flows, cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder communication.

Problem
Users must be VERY specific on what and how they prompt. Missing or misnaming a metric often leads to Incomplete answers or Irrelevant results, so users need to re-prompt and iterate
Even when the data is accurate and available. Users don’t always know where to focus
Patterns (recurring downtime, performance losses) require manual analysis
Production management, daily meetings, and reports is time-consuming
Finding the right information across the platform takes effort and context switching.
Traditional AI chat solutions shift the burden to the user:
"Ask the right question and maybe you’ll get the right answer."
Solution
AI as a “CI Assistant” — Always There, Always Relevant. Rather than a standalone chat, AI is integrated directly into the product experience.
1. Proactive Insights (No Prompt Required)
The AI continuously analyzes production data and highlights what matters most:
2. Contextual Hints & Recommendations
Instead of raw data, the AI provides actionable hints such as possible causes based on historical patterns
3. Assisted Reporting & Meeting Prep
Users often need fast summaries for, daily production meetings, or Weekly reviews
4. Smart Discovery Across the Platform
UX Principles Behind the Design
- AI should reduce effort, not create new tasks
- Insights > Information
- Embedded, not bolted on
- Proactive, not reactive
- Trust through transparency (clear explanations of why an insight is shown)
Impact
- This approach reframes AI from a tool into a daily CI partner:
- Faster decision-making
- Less time spent interpreting data
- Better focus on what truly impacts performance
- Higher confidence in continuous improvement actions
In Continuous Improvement,
the best AI is the one you don’t have to ask.
